Film-film Box Office yang diputar di musim liburan ini memecahkan rekor akhir pekan. Sekitar $ 278 juta, pendapatan yang mengalahkan rekor sebelumnya dari sekitar $ 253 juta pada Juli 2008, yaitu setelah "The Dark Knight" dirilis.

"Avatar," 3-D epik, memperoleh $ 75 juta diminggu kedua. Hanya 3 persen penurunan dari akhir pekan pembukaannya total $ 77.4 juta.

Dalam 10 hari setelah rilis, "Avatar" telah membuat $ 212 juta di dalam negeri dan kemungkinan pendapatan kotor lebih dari $ 1 miliar di negara-negara lain.

Posisi kedua adalah "Sherlock Holmes," film besutan sutradara Guy Ritchie's yang dibintangi Robert Downey Jr sebagai sang detektif ternama karya Arthur Conan Doyle.

Warner Bros film dibuka dengan akhir pekan total $ 65.4 juta, termasuk pada Hari Natal sebesar $ 24.9 juta.

"Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel," yang diputar pada hari Rabu, mendapatkan $ 50.2 juta untuk akhir pekan dan $ 77.1 juta dalam lima hari rilis. Film ini memperoleh penghasilan yang mengesankan $ 18.8 juta pada Rabu saja.

Juga Pemutaran perdana Nancy Meyer's "It's Complicated," komedi romantis yang dibintangi Meryl Streep, Alec Baldwin dan Steve Martin. Dengan penonton 72 persen wanita, film produksi Universal ini memanen $ 22,1 juta, debut yang solid.
