150 Tahun Penjara Bagi Madoff "Sang Penipu"

Enam bulan setelah "Skema Ponzi" Madoff yang merugikan investor senilai ratusan miliar Dollar terbongkar, Bernard Madoff, mantan orang penting dari Wall Street, hari Senin (29/6) dijatuhi hukuman maksimum 150 tahun penjara, oleh pengadilan distrik New York.

Madoff (71), yang juga mantan pimpinan bursa, hari Senin itu disidang lagi menghadapi Hakim. Mengingat usia Madoff yang sudah lanjut, sebelumnya para pengacara Madoff meminta agar Madoff hanya dihukum 12 tahun penjara. Ira Sorkin, pengacara Madoff meminta agar Hakim mengesampingkan semua histeria dan emosi dalam menangani kasus ini.

Banyak pihak awalnya memperkirakan, setidaknya Madoff akan dijatuhi hukuman 20 tahun penjara. Namun ternyata hakim mengganjar mantan pemimpin Nasdaq ini dengan hukuman maksimum, yakni 150 tahun penjara. Madoff didakwa menggelapkan aset para investor hingga 170 miliar Dollar.
